SIGMA: a tool for audiovisual heritage management
Main Article Content
Abstract
The research focuses on the development of an Information System for the Management and Handling of Audiovisual Archives (SIGMA), adaptable to different types of files. Its main objective is to improve the organization, accessibility, and preservation of digital audiovisual content in institutional and commercial environments. The study seeks to identify best practices and technologies to integrate them into SIGMA, thus optimizing the storage, retrieval, and manipulation of these digital assets. It addresses critical challenges such as interoperability, scalability, long-term preservation, and security. The lack of specific systems for audiovisual content is notable, especially considering its growing importance in sectors such as education, entertainment, and culture. Efficient management of these archives can not only increase productivity but also significantly contribute to their preservation against technological challenges and digital degradation. The cultural relevance of these archives, recognized by UNESCO, underscores their value as an integral part of the national cultural heritage and highlights the need to promote a culture of preservation and access.
